What circumstances would attract
immigrants to America and what contributions did your immigrant
group make to the United States ?
Today you will embark upon a
journey, a search to find a home. Each student will do research on
a group of pilgrims—immigrants to America.
Why would someone leave a familiar area of family and friends for
the opportunities offered in the United States?
Each student will select a country
from those available. Students should consider a study of their own
background or that of another group of their choice. Classroom
materials, Media center resources, computer references, as well as
interviews, will provide access to the answers you seek.
EACH STUDENT will take notes on
:

origin (890’s to present)

The journey to the U.S.

The immigration process- Ellis
Island and Beyond (to 1960’s)

Assimilation into the U.S.

Current Restrictions/Present
Immigration Laws
REQUIREMENTS:

Create a current map of homeland
(in your hand ) OR create the nation’s flag (history of symbolism)

Identify significant pilgrims/famous immigrants
-
Describe contributions of this
group to the U. S.

Describe
food and music
-
Provide
examples of Fashion/Style/Sports (DO ONE)
Each student will use his/her
research information to create a letter home to the country
being studied to encourage other family members to come to the U.S.A.
