1. Calendar Dates to Note:
- Monday, January 25th is a professional development day. Students will not attend school on that day.
- Winter Choral Concert: January 27th
- Principal's Coffee: January 28th: Cafetorium, 9:15 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.
- Report Cards: Report cards will be distributed on Tuesday, February 2nd
- CMT begin on March 2
2. HKMS and Haiti:
In light of the indescribable images of suffering resulting from the recent earthquake disaster in Haiti, we know that many of you are trying to determine the best way to address the tragedy with your children.
Helping children understand such catastrophic events is challenging as we attempt to keep them emotionally safe and raise them to become enlightened and empathetic adults. Our responsibility is to educate a generation of vibrant children who engage the world with wisdom and confidence, understand the natural world, and are committed to making the world a better place.
Should your child bring up the subject, there are many resources available on line to help you discuss this event. The National Association of School Psychologists has excellent advice

Here at HKMS, we understand that our students will want to explore ways to bring relief to the victims of this terrible tragedy. Our staff will be meeting with student leaders this week to determine the nature and extent of our efforts.
