Dear Parents:
Here is this week's "News to Know":
1. Tuesday, January 12th is an early dismissal day. This is one of the five afternoons a year that HKMS faculty meet for professional development. Students are dismissed at 12:10 p.m.The remaining HKMS dates for this year include: April 8, 2010 and May 19, 2010.
Please remember that SSES has eight afternoons a year. If you should have children in both schools, please carefully check each school's calendar.
2. Attention: Sixth Grade Parents of students taking French or Spanish:
If your child received French instruction during the first quarter of this school year, s/he will be enrolled in our new Language Lab program. Beginning third quarter, Tuesday, January 27th, your child will participate in an on-line tutorial program during three of their six literacy periods. S/he will either be scheduled for the lab on ACE days or BDF days. A label on your child's third quarter schedule will indicate which days s/he will be in the lab. Mrs. Fontana, a native French speaker, will be supervising your child's progress.
If your child received Spanish instruction during the second marking period, s/he will be enrolled in our new Language Lab program. Beginning third quarter, Tuesday, January 27th, your child will participate in a on-line tutorial program during three of their six literacy periods. Again, s/he will either be scheduled for the lab on ACE days or BDF days. A label on your child's schedule will indicate which days s/he will be going. Mrs. Harington will be supervising the students' work and monitoring progress.
Quarter 3 and 4 students will also be scheduled for lab time as the school year progresses.
3. Attention: Eighth Grade Parents of students:
Mrs. Thomas will be scheduling a meeting with your 8th grader during the coming month. Our goal is to transition your child brimming with competencies and confidence. Joel Barlow counselors will be invited to attend these meetings. There will be additional transition activities that will be communicated in coming months.
4. Principal's Coffee: Mark your calendar for Thursday, January 28th. from 9:15 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Place: HKMS Cafeteria.
5. CMT Testing: The CMT will be administered from March 1 to March 26, 2010. The Direct Assessment of Writing will be administered on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. It would be most helpful if you did not schedule a vacation during this time.
6. Student Character Trait of the Month: This month's emphasis is on kindness in word and deed.
7. Clothes Drives: Student Council is collecting boots, mittens, hats, gloves, etc. starting this coming Monday, January 11th. Also, the Easton Senior center is collecting coats. (Please read the attached from the Easton Senior Center) |
