Dear Parents of 8th grade students:
I am writing to request that you give your child permission to take a survey related to academic integrity.
As some of you may know, Joel Barlow (in collaboration with Dr. Dave Wangaard, School for Ethical Education) has formed an Achieving with Integrity Committee. The committee has been studying and implementing school based methods to promote the practices of academic integrity at Joel Barlow.
Members of the committee will be visiting our 8th grade classes on May 12. They plan to share current research (i.e.90% of students report some cheating behavior during the school year) and promote strategies that motivate students to resist plagiarism.
The next morning, May 13th, students will be asked to take a survey related to academic integrity. The surveys will be anonymous and take about 15 minutes to complete. Of course, you can have your child "opt-out". There is a copy of the survey in the Main Office, should you want to read the questions that will be asked.
By having our eighth graders complete the survey, the committee will have a gauge on current needs of the incoming classes from HKMS and JRMS.
Please find attached the "opt out" form to submit to your child's homeroom teacher no later than Monday, May 10th.
Thank you,
Joan Parker
