The HKMS Jazz Ensemble meets before school on a weekly basis. All students in grades 6,7 and 8 are invited to participate however, concert performances are limited to only those who are able to execute the music with thorough understanding. During the school year the Jazz Ensemble performs on numerous occasions, including a competitive outing at Lake Compounce in late spring. Last year’s band took first place with a superior rating.

The Concert Choir is open to seventh and eighth graders by audition only. Participants will learn a variety of music from the Renaissance through the Twentieth Century. They often represent the school at various public functions and offer Winter and Spring Concerts. Good vocal production, sight singing, theory, and music reading are stressed as well as the development of a group choral sound. This is a mixed voice group and members are also expected to participate in Chorus.

Sixth graders will have the opportunity to audition for Concert Choir as openings become available.

Students must be willing to attend Concert Choir rehearsals on time and on a regular basis.

Expense: Individual events/trips might require student expense.

Represents the school at various public functions and offers 2 school concerts.

Performed at the CT Visiting Nurse Hospice Tree of Light tree Lighting ceremony this past December.
