Project Title: The Sixth Grade World Language Art Gallery
Project Purpose: To explore French culture through the medium of art.

CORE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students will:

1 Identify at least 3 artists of interest
2 Research life and body of work of one artist
3 Write target language paragraph on the life of the artist
4 Choose one work for personal response
5 Write target language paragraph responding to the selected work
6 Choose presentation format
7 Present both paragraphs and the chosen work
8
Display chosen work either in the gallery space and/or the school website

Curriculum Goals Technology Integration
World Language:
  • Write, review, and edit own writing with teacher guidance.
  • Prepare and present brief reports on thematic topics (e.g., weather report, commercial, etc.) using a variety of formats (e.g., brochures, dioramas, puppets, travel posters, etc.)
  • Identify roles and responsibilities of men, women and children in the target culture(s).
  • Identify how people in the target culture(s) interact with their environment (e.g., living space according to available materials, modes of transportation -- metro, chivitas, recreational space, etc.)
  • Describe cultural achievements and/or symbols of the target culture(s) (e.g., Mona Lisa, Statues of Simon Bolivar, Fados of Portugal, castles, cathedrals, pyramids and fountations).
  • Recognize charactertistics/style of three of five famous artists/musicians and draw or paint a picture or make music/rhythm in this style (e.g., French impressionists, Mexican Muralists, etc.)
  • Use primary bilingual dictionary, picture dictionary or glossary to access information.

Fine Arts:

  • Content:  Students will consider, select and apply a range of subject matter, symbols and ideas
  • History and Cultures:  Students will understand the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.
  • Analysis, Interpretation and Evaluation:  Students will understand the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.
  • Analysis, Interpretation and Evaluation:  Students will reflect upon, describe, analyze, interpret and evaluate their own and others' work.
  • Connections:  Students will make connections, between the visual arts, other disciplines and daily life.

Language Arts:

  • Create a graphic organizer to organize ideas for informative webpage
  • Interpret text by using prior knowledge and experiences
  • Use a variety of monitoring and self-correcting methods (skimming, scanning, reading ahead, re-reading, using resources, summarizing, re-telling, re-adjusting speed)
  • Interact with others in creating, interpreting and evaluating written, oral and visual texts.

  • Engage in a process of generating ideas, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing or presenting.
  • Proofread and edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization.

2. Use Internet to view pre-selected websites on Francophone artists or composers

4. Use Word Language Tools to write a target-language essay

5. Use Word Language Tools to review and revise essays

6. Scan illustrations of works of art

7. Use Word Language Tools to insert image into essay

8. Use Power Point, as an option, to create a presentation for the webpage

9. Use the data projector to present Power Point  shows if this is the chosen format
