Project TitleJourney Through the Planets

CORE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students will:

  1. Work in cooperative groups, using notebook computers, to research information on the planets.
  2. Organize information using an on-line graphic organizer.
  3. Create a presentation using the information from the graphic organizer.
  4. Present their findings to the class.
Curriculum Goals Technology Integration
Science:

Students will:

1. realize that the Solar System is composed of planets and other objects that orbit the Sun

2. develop descriptions, explanations, and models using evidence

3. understand that the Earth’s structure is the basis for the structure of other planets

4. comprehend the relationships among mathematics, science and technology and the way they affect, and are affected by, society

5. describe the solar system as consisting of nine unique planets with components such as comets, asteroids, and meteors

Language Arts:

Students will:

1. use prior knowledge and experiences

2. engage in a process of generating ideas, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing or presenting

3. proofread and edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization

4. speak and write using conventional patterns of syntax and diction

5. create graphic organizer to organize ideas

6. interpret text by using prior knowledge and experiences

7. use a variety of monitoring and self-correcting methods (skimming, scanning, reading ahead, re-reading, using resources, summarizing, re-telling, re-adjusting speed)

8. interact with others in creating, interpreting and evaluating written, oral and visual texts

9. gather, select, organize and analyze information from secondary sources

10. engage in a process of generating ideas, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing or presenting

11. proofread and edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization

12. create a Works Cited based on the 6-8 Writing Tools

13. speak and write using conventional patterns of syntax and diction

Students will:

1. use notebook computers to access the Internet

2. view teacher-selected websites

3. critically evaluate websites to determine relevancy of information to their topic

4. use the teacher-created template in Inspiration to organize their specific categories

5. enhance their web by changing style, design, color and adding appropriate graphics

6. use the "Spell Check" tool

7. save graphic organizer (web) in the designated folder on the Network

8. save the web in the designated "Student Work" folder and individual class folders

9. use graphic organizer as the basis for creating a Powerpoint presentation

10. enhance presentation using different fonts, styles, colors, and graphics

11. locate graphics and/or clipart to match their planet

12. insert graphics into the presentation

13. view sound and video clips from Unitedstreamingvideo.com and select small clips for the presentation (optional)

14. utilize animation schemes and slide transitions to create final presentation

15. save the file as a presentation in the designed "Student Work" folder and individual folders

16. save the file as a "Powerpoint Show" in the designed "Student Work" folder and individual folders for automatic automatic viewing
