Using Websites: Where/how to find what you need to know!

1. Classical USA

In left column click on Reference; click on the Classical Music Pages.

Scroll down and choose these:

Musical Epoch (another name for Era)

This is recommended for dates and lists of composers by era; webmaster’s choice of composers as most famous

Form

This site defines each type (form/style) of music; types/forms may be gotten by reading the history (see below)—types are highlighted in each time period

Composer’s Name

This lists composers with dates for each era; a brief biography of composer whose name is highlighted in blue.

Western Music: A Short History

A brief history with types of music and composer included.

2. Still in the Reference column, click on Music History 102. This site has a brief history of each era, which is quite good.

3. Essentialsofmusic.com This site allows you to choose from eras, composers, and glossary.

Eras is further divided into historical themes, context, style (this is NOT the same as

types/form/style, but rather a general description of the music of a particular era).

There is also a listening icon.

The following sites are very good for world history events:

4. hyperhistory.com

5. ehistory.com

6. factmonster.com

7.  Nettrekker.com
