Each group should choose a "coordinator"; this should be someone who understands the task(s) and can communicate well with both the teacher and group members. Each group should choose a "task master"; this should be someone who understands the tasks and who possesses a good vision of where the group needs to go. How the group gets there should be decided by members of the group. The taskmaster also needs to assess the group’s progress daily, provide a summary to the group and work closely with the coordinator. The Project must include: 1. Six Eras of Music beginning with the Medieval Time Period. Students should use the Eras as listed on the Listening Journal Reference Sheet. 2. Dates for each era must be listed. Again, Students should use the dates for each era as listed on the Listening Journal Reference Sheet. 3. The Eras must be presented in chronological order, with the most recent era last. 4. Four famous composers and their dates must be named for each era. 5. One-two sentence summary of the highlight(s) of each composer’s musical contributions must accompany each composer listing. 6. Two specific types/styles of music for each era, must be included with a description of each type/style. (ex. Symphony, motet, cantata) Sacred/secular instrumental/vocal is too broad and should not be used as a specific type. 7. Four specific non-musical world events and their dates for each era. (an event is a specific happening that affected people [ex. The Battle of Hastings in 1066]; "advancement of technology " is NOT an event.) 8. Develop a summary paragraph which reflects each era. This might come from all the information that the group has gleaned by reading about each time period as information is gathered. 9. Each group must listen to a representative piece of music (about 5 - 8 minutes in length) from each time period and write an individual paragraph in response to each listening. Ideas to be discussed may be found on the Listening Journal Reference Sheet. These listening samples will be provided by the teacher or may be provided by group members. The listening paragraphs will be handed in separate from the class presentation. 10. Group bibliography of all material used.
