Project Expectations and Inderdisciplinary Connections

1. All sixth graders will be expected to present a speech about an important historical person from the time periods we are studying. Students will use their imagination in order to pretend to be that person. Essays are to be written in first person.

2. Students will sign up for the person they would like to be. This project will extend through out the year until all students have completed a speech.

3. At the beginning of each month I will announce the famous historical people we are studying and give the students researching those people some information about them.

4. Students must submit an outline before turning in a rough draft. Rough drafts will be submitted before the final draft and presentation are due.

5. Speeches are to be typed if possible (standard font, size 12, double spaced,2 pages) or neatly hand written in blue or black ink also double spaced, 4 pages. Speeches will be 2-3 minutes in length.

6. Some costumes may be difficult to put together. The student is responsible for finding as much of the costume as possible. There are items that I will loan students if needed. No student may totally rely on my supplies. Expensive costumes are unnecessary.

7. Information sources will include the textbook, encyclopedia, one on-line source, library books and teacher handouts. A works cited page (bibliography) must be included with at least one book, one encyclopedia and one on-line source,

8. Approximately four weeks before the presentation date, a letter will be sent home with the bottom portion to be filled out and returned. This will allow parents and students plan accordingly, and to be aware of the project due dates. (The majority of this project is completed at home)

9. All speeches must be written in the student’s own words. Plagiarism is not allowed

10. Extra help will be available

Tear off and return to Mrs. Rose.

I am aware of the historical person project and will help my child meet all deadlines.

Famous Historical Search

Students are strongly recommended to view the Internet results found by using Net trekker as their search engine. These sights have been reviewed by educators and condense the research available to a few prime sites.

http://www.nettrekker.com

Login: enter student name and password ( should be the same information students use at school in order to access computer)

Far right side of homepage: students will click on Show Tools

Menu will drop

Under the term Secondary Students will choose Famous Person

Search for their famous historical and begin searching fro information

Attached is an outline form to be used, and a sample evaluation sheet. Please review these materials carefully. Although I will collect and review the rough draft, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure all requirements have been met. In addition, a second proofreader should be chosen by the student to ensure a high quality presentation.
