Consider yourself very fortunate in that you and three other people are able to travel to one (1) stadium of your choice in the United States. The pre-requisite is that the stadium must be at least 300 miles from Easton, Connecticut.
Goals:
To compare total cost of your trip, including food, travel, cost of baseball tickets, souvenirs, food at stadium. Two modes of transportation must be compared (train, plane or car).
Requirements:

- Select 1 stadium in the United States, more than 300 miles from Easton.
- You must be able to reach your stadium by 2 modes of transportation (air, train, car)
- Find out the distance between Easton, CT and your stadium
- Use Mapquest to find the distance
- When traveling by car, the following information will remain constant:
- Cars will get 20 miles to a gallon of gas
- Use gasbuddy to calculate the cost of gas based on your location
- Hotels will cost $100 per night (4 people to one room)
- If traveling by car, you will drive no more than 400 miles each day
- Food will cost $50 per person a day, excluding stadium food
- When traveling by air,
- You will need to find out the cost of a round trip ‘economy’ ticket
- Use airline websites or discount websites for finding out the cost
- When traveling by train,
- You will need to find out the cost of a round trip ‘economy’ ticket
- Use Amtrak to find out the cost of train tickets
- Visit the stadium website
- Find out the cost of the tickets you would like to purchase
- Try to find out the cost of food and determine your total (if this is an impossibility, you may use the range listed below) (Sheet 2-Stadium Food)

- Create an Excel spreadsheet with the information you have collected.
- Use the sample spreadsheet as a template. Open the sample and save in Student Work as (Name of Your Stadium-your firstname and last initial).
- Create a folder under Student Work:

- Spreadsheet
- Travel Comparison
- Ticket Cost
- Number of tickets (4)
- Food purchased for 4 (excluding arena food)
- Souvenirs purchased for 4
- Cost of gas based on 20 miles per gallon
- Hotel Cost x number of nights
- Food costs x 4 people based on the number of nights
- Use formulas in Excel
- Make sure you use grid lines for ease of reading
- Rename 1st sheet "Master Expenses"
- Rename and create a 2nd sheet called "Stadium Food"
- Rename and create a 3rd sheet called "Sourvenirs"
- Insert a Header in Excel stating the name of the stadium
- Change the orientation from portrait to landscape
- Adjust margins, if necessary, so all data fits on one page
- When synthesizing the information, determine the most cost effective way to travel and what your total cost would be for a trip to each stadium or arena. Explain in several sentences which mode of transportation would be your choice. This is your trip. You decide!
- Write a written reflection on the process and product.
- Create a Powerpoint Presentation to share with students as to your choice.
