STUDENT WORK: How many ways can you change a baseball? Students used Photoshop Elements ... follow their link to view their creativity!

Directions for creating Pennant

In the spirit of Just-In-Time Learning, students were asking to design their own graphics for their pennants and alter images they had found. Their excitement was the impetus for introducing the program, Photoshop Elements. Students will use their knowledge of Photoshop Elements to enhance their pennants.

Even though you are in school, you might find it curious that you will be using baseball cards to evaluate the statistics of different players and their value to a team based on their individual statistics. This project will incorporate 21st Century Skills, including

  • Creativity and Innovation
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
  • Communication and Collaboration

Requirements:

Set up an Excel spreadsheet using the file "Creating a Baseball Card Worksheet" as a guide. (To see what a completed sheet looks like, follow this link to the Example.) Use these requirements as a guide; print the list and check off as you go to make sure you have completed everything.

  1. row titles
  2. change font size
  3. change font color
  4. wrap text
  5. enlarge columns
  6. data input accurately
  7. data in columns formatted correctly
  8. formulas input accurately
  9. formulas carried down the entire column
  10. sort statistics, highest to lowest, in each category
  11. input the data into an Excel spreadsheet
  12. Using Microsoft Word, make a good argument for selecting one of your players to play on a championship team. Remember that you are looking for the best overall player and that could be a challenge. Use the statistics from the Excel spreadsheet to back up your decision. You will have to use good judgment and critical thinking in making your decision. Make sure you use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. Before you consider this to be your final document, review and edit with another student in the class.

All work should be saved under Student Work - 21st Century - Grade 7.
